TNVR

Trap: humane trapping of free-roaming cats

Neuter: surgery to spay or neuter

Vaccinate: for FVRCP and rabies

Return: the cat back into their original colony

What makes the our TNVR program different than others our follow through. We do not just release the cats after alteration / vaccination and never return. Our volunteers return to colony sites to evaluate health status and ensure continued access to food, water and shelter. Additionally, we look for ears that have not yet been tipped. This helps to ensure colonies do not re-expand and sabotage our prior efforts to control a population.

Our volunteers are dedicated to preventing unnecessary suffering through controlling the stray and feral cat population. We partner with local low-cost clinics to accomplish this goal; however, we rely on donations from the community to make this possible. Each neuter surgery costs $50 to $80 and several appointments are needed each week. At this time, we do not receive funding from the city, county, or state.

RESCUE

Our volunteers are adaptable, knowledgable, and willing to respond when the need arises. Through our rescue program we aim to lessen fear by rescuing those who are failing to thrive or otherwise need help and ensure placement in a qualified foster home until their second chance at life lasting love arrives. â€‹

Please note, we are a FOSTER based rescue, which means that our volunteers are only able to make rescues if we have somewhere for the animal(s) to go for recovery and leading up to adoption.

MEDICAL

495373444_1094783339344411_6609951156017229474_n.jpg

Our TNVR and rescue programs do not always yield healthy animals. We often find ourselves in the emergency room or our local trusted veterinary clinic to ensure cats in our care receive the medical care required to restore their health status and functional ability. It is not a well kept secret that veterinary care is expensive. An urgent or emergent appointment often costs $250 to $500 and routine follow up care adds to the bill.

CCLAW's biggest and most recent medical case was in May 2025 when we rescued Wally (see picture, left) who was infested with fleas and ticks,  profoundly malnourished and had an injured / infected right front leg. We took him to the vet immediately on intake and learned that he would require an emergent, high-risk, amputation in order to save his life. The total cost of his medical care exceeded $1,500. Today, Wally is loved by his adopters, happy, and healthy!

Stories like Wally's would have a MUCH different ending if not for donations from our community that allow us to render aid to these precious souls who are unable to ask for help.

FOSTER

CCLAW functions as a FOSTER based rescue. This means that we do NOT have a dedicated building or "shelter" available to house animals in our care. We rely on members of our community to open their homes to cats in need on a temporary basis.

This is often a good option for families who care for animals and want to help but are unable to make a lifelong commitment to a pet or additional pet(s). Our program offers a wide variety of available foster plans that are tailored to meet the needs of both the foster family and rescue animal. Additionally, our organization funds all veterinary care and provides all supplies for the foster animal(s) from intake through adoption. This is ONLY made possible by donations we receive throughout the year.

ADOPTION

CCLAW has many of cats available for adoption each year. Each of which have been rescued from abuse situations or a life of homelessness.

When looking for a new companion it is important to consider the importance of adopting a rescue or shelter animal over one from a breeding facility.

  • You are SAVING A LIFE by adopting from a rescue or shelter - giving them a second, or third, or fourth chance at life. Some animals have been through more than any of us could imagine. Unfortunately, they are unable to tell us of their prior suffering, but they sure can show love and appreciation! â€‹

  • This helps to prevent overpopulation, which is the REASON why rescue animals end up in dire straits, and often times suffering until their eventual death.

  • Reduce the demand for animals from mill type situations and back yard breeders, who often times do not have reasonable ethical standards. You can help to break cycles of cruelty!

  • Cost savings. In most cases, adoption fess for a rescue or shelter animal are much lower than the cost of purchasing from a breeding facility.

  • Find the PERFECT companion. Rescues and shelters have animals of various breeds, ages, and personalities. This increases the chances of finding a pet that best suits your situation

Community Service

Every year CCLAW volunteers make and donate over 100 styrofoam cat shelters to ensure community / barn cats have a safe and warm place to rest during inclement weather. We collect donated styrofoam coolers and purchase straw and duct tape for this project. Initially, we used a power drill and a whole saw to carve perfect 6" openings into the shelter, and while efficient, this method was incredibly messy. Luckily, in following a fellow rescue out of Omaha, NE on social media, we recently learned using heat was a much better option. So, we set out and asked if anyone in our community could make us a heat tool for making large volumes of shelters. Thankfully, our request was quickly fulfilled!
